Netflix TV Shows to Binge Watch This Weekend
Now that Netflix has finally arrived in India, it is time to get started with binge-watching of some of the best shows the television world has to offer. We have put together a list to help you with this mammoth but achievable task. Here goes:
Daredevil
The first Marvel TV show to be part of Netflix, Daredevil premiered in 2015 to tremendous critical acclaim. The show traverses the trajectory of Matt Murdoch’s (Charlie Cox) inner conflicts, and his attempts to protect his city while he plays a lawyer by day and crime-fighting vigilante at night. Daredevil is an interesting explorations of the concepts of right and wrong, light and dark, God and Devil and so on and so forth.
BoJack Horseman
With the voice talents of the likes of Aaron Paul and Stanley Tucci, BoJack Horseman is an animated sitcom about a world where humans and anthromorphic animals live together. The series is an intelligent comment on the Hollywood lifestyle and the empty glitz of tinsel town.
Narcos
Based on the life of the drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, Narcos is a Netflix exclusive TV show. The show offers an authentic portrayal of a Colombian setting and a dramatised, and often fictionalised, version of Escobar’s. Currently, Narcos is one of the highest rated shows on IMDb, and with good reason.
Black Mirror
A British TV series, Black Mirror shows the consequences of a world where technology has taken over our lives. The show is an intelligent portrayal of the dangers of a society entirely dominated by technology. The 2014 Christmas Special episode titled ‘White Christmas’ starring Jon Hamm, Oona Chaplin and Natalia Tena deserves a special mention. Though it’s not an original Netflix series, it’s up there for your streaming pleasure now.
Orange is the New Black
The show is based on the memoir of Piper Kirman based on her own experiences in a federal prison. It shows the character progression of the Piper Chapman who one day wakes up to find herself facing a prison sentence post her indictment in a case of drug-peddling. OISTNB is one of the most watched Netflix series and has won numerous awards in both the drama and the comedy category.
Jessica Jones
Another Marvel superhero is brought to live in this TV show adaptation of Jessica Jones. Krysten Ritter embraces the screen as the indifferent PI, drowning her guilt of a dark past in alcohol. However, the show’s highlight has got to be David Tennant who takes the cake for being one of the best villains in television history so far. To everyone’s relief however, they gave purple-coloured skin a miss for Kilgrave’s character.
House of Cards
Watch Kevin Spacey play a ruthless, ambitious and absolutely unforgiving Democrat in this Emmy award winning TV series about the political struggles of a man who aspires to be the next American president. Robin Wright’s portrayal of Frank’s wife, Carrie Underwood is another performance to watch out for. This is yet another highly-watched Netflix TV series with several awards and critical acclaim to its name.
